Introduction

Creative targeting is set within a line item and directs how the creative for a specific set of inventory is served.

For example, a set of creatives in a line item can each be designed to serve on a specific operating system. With the help of creative targeting, we can ensure that creative is getting served only if ad request is coming from the designated operating system.

Relationship between Line Item and Creative Targeting

Line Item targeting and creative targeting rules work with an AND relationship. Therefore, ensure that creative targeting is inline with Line Item targeting

For example, if a line item targeting is set to include India in its geography targeting, ensure that the creatives in the line item are also targeting India in the geography targeting. If geography targeting is not set on a creative in that line item, the creative will be served only in India as it will use the line item targeting.

FAQs

Which line item types are supported in creative targeting?

It is supported for Sponsorship, Standard, House, and Wrapper.

Can I change creative Targeting in any Line Item State?

It can be changed if the line item NOT completed or Archived.

What happens if I change creative targeting while a line item is delivering?

The Ad Engine will take 15 minutes of time for the change to take effect. Therefore, the creative will be served using prior set rules.

What would be behavior of creative targeting if the creative links to multiple line items?

We store the targeting for a creative exclusively for single line item - Creative relation. Therefore, if your creative is linked to multiple line items, each will hold a separate copy of creative targeting.

For example:

  1. Creative C1 is linked to Line Item L1 and L2
  2. For Line Item L1, C1 will be served only if impression is from US and Android devices
  3. For Line Item L2, C1 will be served only if impression is from Android devices
  4. If you changed the targeting criteria for C1 linked to L2 such that it will serve only if impression is from Android devices and User age is 30
  5. In this case C1 will continue to work for Line Item L1 as is i.e for US and Android devices

Why I can not set Creative Targeting while creating fresh New Creative ?

Targeting on Creative is applicable only when Creative is linked to Line Item. Creative is always served using the Line Item and targeting criteria on same creative can vary from Line Item to Line Item

Why can't I see 'View Targeting' on the Creative Details Page with the line item listing ?

We add the targeting on the creative based on the line item to which the creative is linked. Therefore, we always focus on a single line item while configuring the targeting on creative.
