Forecasting helps you predict whether you'll have enough available inventory to fulfill the requirements of a new order or line item or to project how current line items will perform and whether they'll meet their goals. The report is an estimate that calculates future trends based on historical data, trends and demographics.

Note: Forecast Reports apply to Sponsorship and Standard Line Items only

Manual Forecasting Adjustments

In some circumstances, you may want to manually adjust your inventory to improve the accuracy of your forecasting. For example:

  • If your account in PubMatic is new and therefore, no past trends exist in the PubMatic system on which to base future predictions.
  • If you expect significant changes in inventory, for example, with the creation or deactivation of ad units or for seasonal events such as Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

To address these needs, PubMatic provides a method for manually adjusting your inventory to more accurately forecast performance.

To learn more about manual forecasting adjustments, refer to Manual Forecast Adjustments (UAS)

Creating a Forecast Report

  1. Select Analytics | Forecasting from the main navigation.
  2. Click Create Forecast Report.
  3. Select the Type of forecast you want to create: Date by Ad Unit or Ad Unit by Date. This determines how the content of the report will be sorted.
  4. Enter a Name and Description for the report.
  5. Enter the Forecast Period by selecting a time period from the drop-down list to apply to this report, or enter a custom date range in the Start Date and End Date fields.
  6. Set a Priority level using the drop-down list. Priority enables you to display forecasting information for only a particular priority level and above.
For example, If you set the priority level to 1, the report will only show inventory available with line items set at the highest priority level (1). However, if you set the priority to 4, the report will show available inventory with line items set at priority levels 1-4.
  7. Add the  Frequency Caps values to be considered while generating Forecast report. Frequency caps can be set at Minute, Hour, Day, Week and Lifetime level.

  8. Select how you want to filter Ad Units and/or Ad Unit Groups for the report in the Filters section.

Note that Run of Network is selected by default until specific selections are made.
  9. To run the report immediately, click Save and Run; to save the report parameters as a draft, click Save - Do Not Run.

If you run the report, it will generate a confirmation that it has been queued. Access the report in the Forecasting Management screen when available.

Reports that are saved, but not run, are available as Draft in the Forecasting Management screen.
