Publishers can block creatives from specific advertisers. From the Creatives page in the Publisher UI, a publisher can block a creative by:

  • unique creative ID (UCrID) or Creative Script from the Review tab,
  • its attribute (e.g.,text-only ads, video ads, etc.) from the Preference tab, or
  • by the keyword in its URL from the Keyword tab.


Review a Creative by Unique Creative ID (UCrID) or Creative Script

The Review tab enables you to search for creatives by the UCrID, which is a maximum of 20 characters and is obtained from the impression tracker or the Creative Script and Block Creatives

Search for Creatives

  1. Select Ad Quality | Creatives. (The Review tab will display by default.)
  2. Enter the search criteria in the Search box. Click Search to view details.

Block/Unblock Creatives

After locating a creative use the Block this creative from all sites toggle to On to block the creative or Off to unblock it.


Block Creatives by Attributes

The Preference tab enables you to block creatives by their attributes. For example, In-Banner Video Ad (Auto Play), Provocative or Suggestive Imagery, Surveys, Flash Ad, etc. Blocklists can also be shared and downloaded directly from this tab.

  1. Select Ad Quality | Creatives from the main navigation menu and select the Preference tab.
  2. Search for an attribute using the Search box or browse the list of available creative attributes. 
  3. In the Available Creative Attributes list, click the attribute you want to block to move it to the Creative Attributes Blocklist on the right.
  4. Click Save. The message, "Creative Attributes Blocklist has been updated successfully" will appear at the top of the page. 
To remove an attribute from the Creative Attributes Blocklist, click the "X" to the right of a blocked creative attribute and click Save.

Export the Creative Attributes Blocklist

  1. Select Ad Quality | Creatives from the main navigation menu and select the Preference tab.
  2. Click the Download button and select the format to export the report. The report will automatically download.

Email the Creative Attributes Blocklist

The Creative Attributes Blocklist can be sent in Excel, PDF or CSV format to anyone with a valid email address directly from the PubMatic platform.

  1. Select Ad Quality | Creatives from the main navigation menu and select the Preference tab.
  2. Click Share.

  3. Enter email address(es), subject and comments.
  4. Select the format (Excel, PDF, CSV) you want to send.
  5. Click Send.


Blocking a Creative by Keyword

Blocking by keyword enables the publisher to block a URL when the specific URLs for an advertiser is not known. Using this feature, the publisher can specify a keyword which is a part of the advertiser’s URL and the PubMatic system will automatically block the entire list of domain URLs which contain this keyword in it. For example, if you want to block creatives from an advertiser named, "XYZ," and specify the keyword in PubMatic as xyz, all the domain URLs present in the PubMatic system and all the subsequently added domain URLs, which contain xyz will be blocked, such as,,,, and etc.

This feature also continuously checks the system at regular intervals if there are any new domain URLs being used to serve creatives. If such a new URL contains this keyword, then that URL is also automatically blocked. In this way, the publisher does not have to check for new URLs from the blocked advertiser and then block them manually. After adding a new keyword, the publisher can then use this feature to view the list of blocked domain URLs which contain this keyword. This allows the publisher to review and check whether this feature is not accidentally blocking a domain URL due to the presence of the specified keyword. The publisher can then unblock a domain URL which it does not want to block, even though it contains the specified keyword.

The objective of Keywords-based URL Blocking feature is to block the domain URLs automatically by specifying the keyword which appears in the URL name.

If you want to block creative URLs using keywords, you must first add the keyword. Once you add the keyword, the corresponding domain URLs (both currently existing and subsequently added) will be blocked automatically.

Add a Keyword

  1. Select Ad Quality | Creatives and select the Keyword tab.
  2. Specify whether this action should be applied to all sites or a specific site by using the Select Site drop-down list.
  3. In the Enter Keyword box, enter the keyword name that you want to specify.
  4. Click the Add button. The keyword will be specified and the corresponding domain URL(s) will be blocked automatically.

Once you specify the keyword, all the subsequent and existing URLs that contains same keyword will be blocked.

Download Blocklist by Keywords or URLs

  1. Select Ad Quality | Creatives and select the Keyword tab.
  2. Click the Download Blocklist above the keyword selection.
  3. Click the download button  next to 
    Keywords blocklist to download a list of keywords in CSV format
    URL blocklist in CSV, XLS or PDF format.
  4. Click Done when the download is complete.

Add or Edit Alerts

Individuals can receive daily alerts by enabling the feature and adding email addresses to receive.

Enable Alerts

  1. Select Ad Quality | Creatives from the main navigation and select the Keyword tab.
  2. Click Edit Alerts.
  3. Perform one or more of the following functions:
  • Turn Daily Alerts on or off using the toggle switch at the top of the window.
  • Enter an email address in the Email address box and click Add.
  • Remove an email address by clicking the delete icon
