Brand Safety


Categories, Advertisers and Domains

Publishers are concerned about brand erosion due to unwanted creatives being shown to their visitors. For example, adult ads or competitor ads that violate a publisher's brand policies. The Blocklist feature in PubMatic helps publishers prevent the display of unwanted creatives to their visitors by blocking the advertiser, advertiser's category, domain URLs and/or creative attributes. Blocklist Manager helps the publisher view the domain URLs for an advertiser and then block and unblock accordingly.


The Blocklist Manager provides a report of all blocked and available advertisers, advertiser's categories and domain URLs. The list of blocked advertisers, advertiser's categories and domain URLs can be downloaded or e-mailed for future reference.


Categories, Advertisers and Domains

The Whitelist Manager enables publishers to allow creatives specifically from one or more advertisers for specific sites (or all sites) by whitelisting URLs for advertisers or advertiser categories. When you whitelist advertisers for a site, all other advertisers are essentially blocklisted. This process facilitates safe and time-saving whitelisting within the PubMatic interface.


Using Whitelist Manager, publishers can:

  • Whitelist a domain URL (including subdomains) for an advertiser or advertiser category for all sites or a specific site.
  • View available domain URLs for whitelisting and enable/disable the whitelist as needed. If you disable a whitelist for a site, it will be "blocklisted," meaning that it is removed from the whitelist.
  • View, schedule, download and email whitelisted advertiser categories, advertisers and domain URLs for all sites or specific sites. If you disable a whitelisted advertiser for a site, any earlier configured blocklist will be applicable for your inventory.
  • Search for and whitelisted advertisers, advertisers' categories and domain URLs.

Ad Inspector is an add-on available for both Firefox and Google Chrome, which analyzes PubMatic ad tags to provide detailed insights for ads served through PubMatic. Ad Inspector provides publishers with the ability to control their ad operations by eliminating inappropriate ads.

Creative Review, Attributes and Keywords

Using PubMatic's Creative Management solutions, publishers can block creatives from specific advertisers by:

  • unique creative ID (UCrID) or Creative Script
  • its attribute (e.g.,text-only ads, video ads, etc.) 
  • by the keyword in its URL
